True stories are often more compelling than fiction and are more difficult to write. When working from autobiographical material, whether in prose, poetry or drama, the writer must learn how to translate memory back into a new, engaging experience for others. Learn how to shift from the shorthand of memory into the story's evocative specifics; how to determine the pulsating narrative elements, language, images and form of the story; how to re-embody the story's different perspectives and how to come to terms with issues of confidentiality.
